Women Dominate Both Ends of Field in Commanding Victory

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team had their most dominant win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating the Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 8-0.

D'Youville jumped all over the Hawks early in the game, providing enough pressure to force dangerous opportunities near the box. A foul to the right of the box led to Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) opening the scoring with her first career goal in the 8th minute as she headed home a Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) free kick to put the Spartans up 1-0 early.

The next pair of goals would come quickly for the Spartans as they continued to keep up their attacking pressure. Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) would receive a ball across the box from Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) for the second goal of the game in the 17th minute. Less than a minute later, Heschke and Brooks would connect for a nearly identical goal as their first with D'Youville going up 3-0.

In the 41st minute, Aussie Mariacher (Elma, NY/Iroquois) had an incredible showing of skill as she beat the defense to the goal line and took a shot from an impossible angle over the goalkeeper's head that found side netting to increase the lead to 4-0. Mariacher's goal would be the final of the half with the Spartans up 4-0.

After 14 minutes of the second, no scoring occurred before D'Youville unleashed a barrage of goals.

In the 60th minute, Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) headed a long ball from Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) for a 5-0 lead. Then in the 61st minute, Magee scored her second of the game with Pachla adding her second assist in as many minutes off another long ball for a 6-0 advantage. Then in the 62nd minute, Cristofanelli scored off an assist from Campbell for a 7-0 D'Youville lead.

The scoring from D'Youville would cool down for the next 20-plus minutes before Pachla added a goal to her stat line, burying a rebound to end the scoring at 8-0 as the Spartans won by their biggest margin of the season at 8-0.

A full team effort gave the Spartans the win on Wednesday. On the 11 shots on goal the team had, eight were goals. Six assists came from the eight goals as the team moved and shared the ball extremely well. In addition, 21 different players saw the field in the win.

Even with their domination on the offensive end, D'Youville was just as impressive on the defensive side of the ball. Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) made three saves in the victory as her defense gave her an easy night. Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Brooks, Jordan Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois), Alexandra Samson (Hadley, NY/Hadley-Luzerne), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Brianna Calmes (Holland, NY/Holland), Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane), and Gabrielle Czech (Alden, NY/Alden) played along the back line and helped secure the victory.

In the midfield, Heschke had a great game alongside Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron), and Campbell. Francesca Kobee (North Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Katelyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer), Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), and Lizzie Priest (Fairport, NY/Fairport) all played significant minutes.

D'Youville will next play this Saturday, October 12 as they host the Mount Aloysius Mounties at 4:15pm.
