Buffalo, NY-The D'Youville Women's soccer team ended their double overtime battle again Mount Aloysius in a 1-1 tie on Saturday, October 12.
Both teams showed up ready today battling from the start. With only one shot taken by the Spartans heading into the 29thminute, they were relying strongly on their solid defense. That was until a long pass to Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/ Northern Adirondack) got her a one on one with the goalie to get the Spartans on the scoreboard first. The Mounties tried to even the score before the end of the first half, but were unable to do so.
Not taking their time, Aloysius got on the board at the 51stminute of the game off of a corner kick. With both teams taking shots the rest of the half, the goalkeepers were getting put to work and stopping everything else that came their way. The teams would head into their first overtime.
Each team had some opportunities to end the game in the ten minutes to follow regulation, but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net, and the second overtime was the exact same way. The game would end in a tie at 1-1.
Coming in big was goalie Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/ Akron) who helped keep her team in the game with 11 saves. Joinging Magee were Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/ Lockport) and Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/ Grand Island) who both had an on goal shot each.
The team heads to Medaille on Tuesday, October 15 to see who will get the Buffalo Cup victory; game is to begin at 8:15 pm. D'Youville will then have some time to rest before they return to Dobson Field to host Pitt.-Bradford on Wednesday, October 23.
