Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team picked up their four conference win of the season on Tuesday evening, defeating the Medaille Mavericks by the final score of 3-0.
Medaille came out firing in the game, forcing goalkeeper Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) to make three saves within the first seven minutes of play. D'Youville would then begin to shift momentum in their favor, eventually applying enough pressure to the Medaille defense to force a foul in the box and earn a penalty kick.
In the 14th minute, Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) stepped to the dot for the third time this season and did what she did the previous two times - score. 'Soup's' PK put the Spartans up by one with their next goal not too far behind their first.
Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) put the Spartans up 2-0 with her third goal of the season in the 22nd minute after the Spartans continued to bring their potent offensive attack at the Mavericks. D'Youville would continue to control the pace of play throughout the rest of the half and went into halftime leading 2-0.
The second half saw the Spartans continue to play a suffocating defense against the Mavericks to shut them out. Adding an insurance goal, Pachla tallied her second of the game in the 86th to put the game away at 3-0.
Pachla led the team with five shots, four shots on goal, and two goals in the game. Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) had four shots with two shots on goal with Campbell adding three shots - all on goal to go with her penalty kick goal.
Poeller made seven saves for her fourth shutout of the season. Per usual, Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), and Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane) all played an exceptional game in front of her.
Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Aussie Mariacher (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron), Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane), Lucania, and Brooks all tallied at least a shot in the win.
The next game for the women will come after over a week off as they will host the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers next Wednesday, October 23 at 7:15pm.
