Magee Nets Hat-Trick in Shutout of Panthers

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to four games on Wednesday evening as the women defeated the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers by the final score of 5-0.

Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) didn't waste much time in scoring her first goal of the game as she tapped home a cross from Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) in the 6th minute to give D'Youville a quick 1-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later, the pair combined for another goal after a beautiful through-ball from Lucania found Magee in the 18th minute for her second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead.

Under a minute following Magee's second goal, Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) received a ball over the top from Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) for a wide-open breakaway and sent an incredible shot from outside the box, curling over the Bradford keeper to find the top left corner of the next for a 3-0 Spartan lead. D'Youville would continue to control play throughout the rest of the half as they led 3-0 at the half.

The domination at both ends of the field continued through the second half and into the final 10 minutes when D'Youville would add to their lead. In the 82nd minute, Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) scored her fourth goal of the season to put D'Youville ahead 4-0. To cap off the game, Magee finished off her hat-trick with a long through-ball from center back Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane) in the 86th minute for the final goal of the game and a 5-0 win.

Magee was the story of the game as the junior tallied her first career hat-trick. She led the team with six shots and four shots on goal. Leeds scored her first of the season with Campbell adding her fourth and Milczarski tallied her first career assist. Katleyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) had two shots on goal with Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), and Pachla each tallying one shot.

Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) picked up her fifth shutout of the season with six saves in the win. Per usual, the back line got the job done as Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Brooks, Lucania, and Milczarski all were outstanding. Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) was once again strong in the midfield.

Aussie Mariacher (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Gabrielle Czech (Alden, NY/Alden), Francesca Kobee (North Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Brianna Calmes (Holland, NY/Holland), and Alexandra Samson (Hadley, NY/Hadley-Luzerne) all received extended playing time in the shutout.

The women will next play this Saturday, October 26 as they play the Franciscan Barons at 3:15pm in Steubenville, OH.
