Pittsburgh, PA- The D'Youville women's tennis team scored an impressive 9-0 at La Roche College. In the match there a number of career firsts were recorded by Spartan players.
Winning their first career singles matches were Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy), Ashley Ledwon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) 6-0, 6-0 at #3, and Hasti Dave (Etobicoke, ONT/North Albion Collegiate Institute) 6-4, 6-3 at #6
Also winning were Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) 6-1, 6-1 in first singles, Courtney Fox (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) 6-0, 6-2 in second singles, and K'Nicia King (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) 4-6, 6-4, (10-4) in fifth singles. For King it was her first win in singles this season and the first time in her two-year career she was a double winner. The team of King and Dave won 8-2 in third doubles.
Also winning in doubles by the scores of 8-2 were the teams of Lampka/Fox and Payne/Ledwon.
It was also the first career double wins for Fox, Ledwon, and Payne.
The win came off the heels of a late night for the Spartans. D'Youville had to sit through a four-plus hour ran delay a Franciscan and did not finish their scheduled 4:00 p.m. match until 11:00 p.m.
"I am really proud of our girls, both today and all season," said Spartan's Head Coach Paul Kullman. "We improved throughout the season and it really came together today for us."
