Women's Tennis Falls to Fredonia to Begin 2017 Campaign

Fredonia, NY – The D'Youville women's tennis team opened up their 2017 season on Friday with a loss to the host Fredonia Blue Devlis by the final score of 8-1.

Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) and Krista Cornell (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) were the top doubles pairing for the Spartans, falling 8-2 to Fredonia's top pairing. Wittig and Cornell also served as the one and two singles players for the women, both losing to the Blue Devils top two players.

Bryannia Sutton (Mexico, NY/Mexico) earned the lone point for the Spartans after her opponent defaulted. Veterans Morgan Finn (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/Vestal), and Nikki Brenton (Alexander, NY/Alexander) each had matches on Friday, while newcomer Vaughnna Bauer (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) made her team debut.

The next match for the women comes tomorrow, Saturday, September 2 at 10:00am as D'Youville hosts Penn State-Behrend.
