Wittig Wins Third Straight Singles Match as Spartans Fall to Lions

Williamsville, NY – The D'Youville women's tennis team had their first match of the weekend Saturday afternoon, falling to the Penn State-Altoona Lions by the score of 7-2.

As she has done in the two previous conference matches this season, Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) earned a point for the Spartans by winning her singles match over the number one player from Penn State-Altoona, 6-3, 6-1. She also helped earn another point with her doubles partner, Krista Cornell (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) defeated the top Lions double pairing 9-8 (7-3).

Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/Vestal) had a strong performance both a singles player, and with her doubles partner Bryannia Sutton (Mexico, NY/Mexico). Morgan Finn (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Vaughnna Bauer (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) were paired up as the third doubles pairing, with Bauer playing well in her singles match.

The next match for the women comes tomorrow, Sunday, September 10 as the women host Mount Aloysius at 10:00am.
