Bradford, PA – The D'Youville women's tennis team wrapped up their 2017 season on Friday evening, falling to the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers in a rain-shortened match by the final score of 6-0.
Each of the team's three doubles pairings battled hard in their matches. Krista Cornell (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) and Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) fell 8-6, narrowly missing out on a point. Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Nikki Breton (Alexander, NY/Alexander) fell 8-4 while Morgan Finn (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Vaughnna Bauer (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) lost 8-1.
Three of the six singles matches ended early due to rain. The top three singles players of Wittig, Cornell, and Iadanza were each winning their singles matches before the rain hit, but because no sets were won by either player, they were marked as unfinished with no player earning a point for their team.
However, Breton, Bryannia Sutton (Mexico, NY/Mexico), and Bauer were each able to get at least one set in. All three of the women fought hard in their final match of the season.
