Freshmen Make Team Debuts for Women's Tennis in Fredonia Loss

Williamsville, NY – The D'Youville women's tennis team had a tough battle in their first match of the season by suffering a 7-2 loss to the Fredonia Blue Devils Friday afternoon.

Making a major impact in her first appearance for the Spartans was freshman Lauren Karoglan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park). Karoglan took the reigns as the team's top singles player on Friday and defeated the top Fredonia singles player by the score of 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 – earning a point for D'Youville. She then paired with senior Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) in the top doubles pairing where the two took down the top Blue Devil pairing 8-5.

Junior Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/Vestal) had a solid first outing of the season for the women. She was in the second doubles pairing and third singles matchup, falling 2-6, 2-6.

Three more freshmen made their team debuts for D'Youville in Alisson Meissner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), and Lexi Dickson (Hamilton, Ont./Frontier). All three battled hard in their first match in the red and black.

The women will next play tomorrow as they travel to Erie, PA to play the Penn State-Behrend Lions 11:00am.
