Altoona Takes Close Match over D'Youville in Women's Tennis

Altoona, PA – The D'Youville women's tennis team battled the Penn State-Altoona Lions in a tough match on Saturday afternoon, falling by the close score of 5-4.

Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) had a strong day, earning a point in each of her singles and doubles matches. Lauren Karoglan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Wittig teamed up as the top doubles pairing for the Spartans to earn an 8-5 victory. Wittig then won her singles match 6-2, 6-1.

Both Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Lexi Dickson (Hamilton, Ont./Frontier) earned points in their singles matches by the scores of 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 (Iadanza) and 6-4, 6-3 (Dickson). Alisson Meissner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each also had strong showings in their singles and doubles matches for the women.

The victory for Dickson was the first of her collegiate career.

D'Youville will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Mount Aloysius to face the Mounties at 11:00am tomorrow morning.
