Buffalo, NY - After an incredible season and career, Gillian Wittig (Depew, NY/Depew) capped off her senior season as being named an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Second Team All-Conference selection.
Wittig went 7-1 in conference and 9-3 overall. She also went 6-2 in AMCC doubles play as part of the top doubles pairing for D'Youville. In every match but one this season, Wittig helped earn a point for her team and was one of the leaders in bringing the team back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Gillian not only led with her play but with her personality and determination as well.
Gillian closed out what is one of the best careers in the history of the D'Youville women's tennis program. Wittig has served as the number one singles player for the women throughout her Spartan career, but moved to second singles this season and got even stronger.
In each of her previous three seasons with the team, Wittig was named the team's most valuable player. She has led the team in wins as a singles and doubles player every year of her career.
At Depew High School, Gillian played tennis and basketball while running track. In tennis, Wittig was an ECIC Sectionals. She was a Basketball Scholar Athlete and Athlete of the Month in basketball and participated in the ECIC Sectionals in track and field.
Last year at the annual Athletics Award Banquet, Gillian was named her team's MVP and Co-Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
An International Business major, Wittig is the daughter of Tim and Denise Wittig.
