Buffalo, N.Y.– The Women's Tennis team is looking to keep the momentum going this season after a record-breaking season for the squad last year.
Back for her sophomore season is Lauren Karoglan (Orchard Park, NY/ Orchard Park). Karoglan was awarded Most Valuable Player after her freshman season of going 11-2 in singles matches and 10-3 in doubles. Lauren was also named AMCC Player of the Week in September after her first weekend if collegiate competitions.
Also back for her second season with the Spartans Alisson Meissner (Hamburg, NY/ Hamburg). After playing in all 13 matches for the team, Alisson earned four wins as a singles player and two in doubles. In the last five matches, Meissner grabbed three wins and helped the team reach postseason. At the end of the season, Meissner earned the teams Most Improved Player award.
Senior Dena Iadanza (Vestal, NY/ Vestal) is also coming back for her final season with the team. Dena finished her junior year with the record of 6-7 in singles play and 4-9 in doubles play. With the third best record as a singles player, and second best in doubles play, she will be looked at for leadership with the underclassmen.
Sophomores Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/ Niagara-Wheatfield) and Lexi Dickson (Hamilton, Ont./ Frontier) will also be looked upon to help the three newcomers of the team. With both of them having wins in singles and doubles, they should be able to do the trick.
The team first sees competition this season at home when they face Fredonia on Friday, August 30 at 4 PM.
