D'Youville Plays Tough Match against Altoona in Conference Opener

Williamsville, NY - The D'Youville women's tennis team played their first conference match of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Penn State-Altoona Lions by the final score of 5-4.

Sophomore Lauren Karoglan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) helped her team earn two big points in the match. As a singles player she defeated the Lion's top singles player by the score of 6-1. 6-1. With her doubles partner Alisson Meissner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), the two took down the top doubles pairing for Altoona by the final score of 8-2.

Earning her first singles win of the season was Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) with a 6-2, 6-0 win. In the third doubles matchup, freshmen Faith Falkowski (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) and Julia Clapper (Cleveland, OH/Highland) earned their first doubles win 8-3.

The Spartans will return to action rather quickly as they turnaround to host the Mount Aloysius Mounties on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
