Aurora, NY- The Spartans snapped a 13-match losing streak dating back to last season by starting their season strong with a 3-0 victory over the Wells Express. This was the Women's Volleyball team's first win in a season opener since 2009. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22, and 25-23.
Sophomore Emily Milbrand (North Tonawanda, NY / North Tonawanda) and newcomer Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY / Queensbury) led the team with seven kills each. Sophomore Alyssa Dueringer (Orchard Park, NY / Orchard Park) contributed to the Spartans' victory with a match-high 19 assists. Brayton and Dueringer each had a match-high four service aces. Coach John Hutton commented on the game, "It's a great way to start off the season. Now the challenge is to keep it moving forward tomorrow."
The Spartans' continue their season tomorrow by hosting the AMCC-NEAC Challenge between Keuka College, Hilbert College, and Morrisville State in D'Youville's College Center Gym. The first set of games will begin at 12pm followed by the second set at 2pm. Come watch your Spartans take on the Morrisville Mustangs at noon and the Keuka Storm at 2pm.
