Buffalo, N.Y.-Women's volleyball continued the momentum from last night's win at Wells by taking their first match at the NEAC-AMCC Challenge with a three-set sweep of Morrisville State. Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-21.
Emily Milbrand (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) led D'Youville with a match-high 10 kills followed by Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) with 6 kills and 2 blocks. Alyssa Dueringer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) recorded her first double-double of the year with 13 assists and 10 digs.
All 17 Spartans saw action in the match.
The momentum continued at the start of the Spartan's second match of the day. D'Youville led 20-18 in the opening frame against Keuka College, winners of 24 matches last season.
Then the Spartans learned how quickly it can get away from them.
Keuka closed the first set with seven-straight points to win 25-20 and never looked back. The Storm took the next set 25-17 and closed out with a decisive 25-8 score in the third.
"As we grow as a team, we need to learn how to overcome rough stretches," said D'Youville coach John Hutton. "When it goes bad, own it and then learn from it."
Next on the schedule for D'Youville is a trip to Pittsburgh for the La Roche College Tournament September 6-7.
