Women's Volleyball Improves to 1-1 in AMCC Play
Buffalo, NY- Women's volleyball evened their conference record to 1-1 with a four-set home win against Mount Aloysius.
D'Youville opened the match with an early 10-4 run in the first set then cruised to 25-14 win. The Spartans lost momentum in the second set losing 25-22. The visitors rallied from a 20-16 deficit an closed the set with three-straight points.
The Spartans looked to be in trouble late in the third set down 22-19. The Spartan's turned it around and ripped off the last six points to win it with a 25-22 score. In the deciding fourth set D'Youville had 12 kills and won 25-19.
Lara Svensson (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) collected 20 digs running her streak to eighth-straight matches with double-digit digs. Both Alyssa Dueringer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had double- doubles. Dueringer totaled 10 kills and 16 assists and Brayton's stat line was 10 kills and 19 digs. Natalie Rieman (West Seneca, NY/Immaculata Academy) dished a season high of 21 assists.
Head coach John Hutton had nothing but praise for his players after the win. "We did a great job executing a pretty specific game plan today. That end of the third set could have been disastrous, but we focused and made plays and won the big points. It's a big step for us."
D'Youville (8-11, 1-1) hits the road this Tuesday (October 8) for an AMCC match at Pitt-Bradford. First serve is at 7:00 p.m.
