Buffalo, NY-Postseason aspirations evaporated tonight for the D'Youville women's volleyball team. The Spartans were defeated in three sets by visiting Medaille College. Game scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.
"Every time we got even or within one point, we just didn't make the plays needed to win close games," said D'Youville Head coach John Hutton. "It's something we need to figure out as a program moving forward."
Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) came into the match as the Spartan's kill leader and tonight the freshman hitter was the team's top offensive player with 9 kills. Emily Milbrand (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) was next with 7 kills to go with 2 blocks.
The team's defensive leader, senior Lara Svensson (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) totaled 12 digs.
There were bright spots in the close game losses. The Spartans had 6 service aces while giving up only 5 points off opponent's serve. Natalie Rieman (West Seneca, NY/Immaculata Academy) had 3 service aces.
The team also outblocked the Mavericks 4-0.
D'Youville will close the season with a home match versus La Roche College November 1. Start time in the College Center Gym will be 6:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the match the squad's four seniors: Anna Campbell (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), Kayla Deth (Cheektowaga, NY/Holy Angels Academy), Molly Minkiewicz (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), and Lara Svensson will be honored.
