Buffalo, NY-August 30th, 2014 – Coming off a loss in their opening game of the 2014 season, the D'Youville Women's Volleyball team rebounded in strong fashion on Saturday going 2-0 in the AMCC-NEAC Challenge.
The first match of the day went the Spartans way as they defeated Morrisville St in straight sets: 25-20, 25-22 and 25-21. Sophomore Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) led the team in kills and was a strong offensive weapon for the team.
The second match of the day proved to be more of a test to the women's volleyball squad as they faced the NEAC's Keuka College. The match went back and forth as D'Youville won the first and third sets 25-22 and 25-21, but then Keuka answered back each time to win the second and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-19.
In the final set, the Spartans took control as the defeated Keuka 15-5 to go undefeated on the day, taking their overall record to 2-1.
Sophomore Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) played well and record the second most digs on the team.
First year Head Coach Stephanie Kazmierczak was very pleased with the way her team bounced back after a disappointing season opener: "We already saw improvement from our last match. I think we surprised a lot of people today."
Looking forward to the future, Kazmierczak thinks that this is just the beginning, "I expect our play to continue, to improve."
The D'Youville Spartans begin their conference schedule on Tuesday September 2nd as they face the Medaille Mavericks at home in the College Center Gym at 7pm.
