Buffalo, NY - September 2nd, 2014 - The first home game of the year for the D'Youville Women's Volleyball Team didn't go their way as they lost to the Medaille College Mavericks, 3-0.
The first set was the closest for the Spartans, as they lost 25-21. The team fell to the Mavericks 25-19 in the second set. As the third set unfolded, D'Youville led early 10-4, but Medaille stormed back to take the set 25-19.
In the third set was where the team totaled their most kills out of the three sets with 12. They totaled 29 kills throughout the 3 sets, recorded 29 assists and totaled 53 digs as a team.
Junior Alyssa Dueringer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) played well for the Spartans, recording 12 digs, second most on the team. Dueringer also dished out a team high 21 assists. Freshman Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier HS) also played well for the team. She was second on the team in the kills category, drilling 6 against the Mavericks. The Hamburg native also tied for the team lead with 8 points.
"Not the result we wanted," said first year Head Coach Stephanie Kazmierczak on the team's performance, "now we will be better prepared for our conference match against them next month."
A strong showing of fans came out to the College Center Gym on Tuesday night to support the two teams.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they travel to St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, September 3rd to take on the Cardinals at 7:00pm.
