September 20th, 2014 - Saturday afternoon saw the D'Youville Women's Volleyball Team lose back to back games against opponents Brockport, 3-0 and Pitt.-Bradford, 3-1.
The first game against Brockport on Saturday went against D'Youville, as Brockport swept in three sets 25-10, 25-16 and 25-19. In their second game against Pitt.-Bradford, the Spartans had a similar fate as they lost in four sets 25-23, 17-25, 25-8 and 25-22.
Against Brockport, sophomore Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) led the team with 8 kills to go along with 4 digs and 8 points. Fellow sophomore Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) was second on the team with 5 digs to go along with 2 kills and 3 points. As a team, D'Youville had 30 kills and 28 digs.
Brayton led the team in digs against Pitt.-Bradford with 15. Freshmen Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport HS) and Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) were tied for the team lead with 8 kills apiece. Christina Horton (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), also a freshman, chipped in with 4 kills, 2 digs and 5 points. As a team, D'Youville had 29 kills and 41 digs.
First year Head Coach Stephanie Kazmierczak wants to learn from the team's disappointing weekend. "We are taking it as a learning experience to get us ready for our first conference matches next week," she said.
The next game for the D'Youville Women's Volleyball Team is Tuesday, September 23rd at Alfred University at 7pm. D'Youville begins conference play against Franciscan at home on Saturday, September 27th at 1pm as the first game of their doubleheader, during homecoming weekend.
