Women's Volleyball Falls Against Host Pioneers

Alfred, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team lost their first match of the season to the host Alfred State Pioneers on Friday afternoon by the final of 3-1.

D'Youville dropped the first set 25-7, but came back strong in the second set and won it 25-18. Despite coming back and tying the match at 1-1, the Pioneers would take the next two sets 25-16 and 25-12 to close out the match.

Sophomore Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the team with 9 kills and 10 digs. Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and Christina Horton (Irondequoit, NY/West Irondequoit) tied with 10 assists each to lead the team. Freshman Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) started her first game as a Spartan and recorded 1 kill and 1 dig with 2 assists.

As a team, the Spartans had 21 kills, 41 digs and 7 total blocks. Along with Schneider, junior Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden) held a share of the team lead with 3 total blocks.
