The largest lead the women would hold over the Saxons was 21-19. D'Youville would begin to take control and Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) had 3 kills in the final 4 points including the set winning kill, giving the Spartans a 25-22 victory.
In set number two, the Spartans would jump out to a 12-5 lead due in large part to several kills from Smith and Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden). Despite their big lead, Alfred would come back and retake the lead at 16-14. The Saxons would take their lead to the game point at 24-19, but D'Youville wouldn't go quietly. With Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) serving, the Spartans would score 7 unanswered points and win the set 26-24.
Opening up a 7-2 lead in the third set, the Saxons looked to hold off a loss from the host Spartans. Alfred University would continue to hold their lead at 17-13 until Schneider once again took over serving duties. Kills by Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) and Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) along with 2 service aces from Schneider got the Spartans back into the match and gave them the lead at 21-17. As she did in the first set, Smith closed it out with a kill as the Spartans took the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Megan McCarthy led the team with 12 kills on the evening, followed by 9 from Kendyll Smith and 5 from Megan Schneider. Leading the team with 16 digs was Kaitlyn Grimm (Erie, PA/Iroquois), followed by Schneider's 12.
