Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team earned their first conference victory of the season on Tuesday evening over the Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 3-1.
Hilbert would take the first set over the visiting Spartans by the score of 25-21. However, D'Youville would battle back to take the next 3 sets 28-26, 25-23, 25-23.
Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) led the team with 12 kills, followed by junior Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) with 10. Coming off her career high in assists on Saturday, sophomore Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) set a new career high Tuesday night with 30 assists.
Three different players had double-digit digs for the Spartans. Cortlynn Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had a season high 15 with Kaitlyn Grimm (Erie, PA/Iroquois) recording 13 andMegan Gawrys (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) tallying 10. Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden) had a team high 5 service aces on the evening.
Freshman Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) had a team high 4 total blocks, followed by Stewart and McCarthy with 3 each. Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) added 5 digs and a service ace in the game.
The women will return home for their next match on Saturday, October 24th at 1pm against the Mount Aloysius Mounties.
