Women's Volleyball Close Out Home Schedule On Dig Pink Night

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team completed the home portion of their 2015 schedule on Wednesday evening with a loss to the Penn State-Behrend Lions 3-0.

D'Youville was in control of the first game after breaking the 4-4 tie. The Spartans took a 10-5 lead over the Lions after a kill from Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson). Behrend would close their deficit to 3 but D'Youville would grab their 5 point lead back to 16-11 due to a kill from Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City). Despite being down for most of the game, the Lions would claw their way back to tie it up at 22. Penn State would see their late push through to the end and win the first set 25-23.

Behrend would pick up where they left off in game one and take a 5 point lead over D'Youville early on with the score 10-5. The Lions would extend their lead to 19-13 and eventually win game two by the final score of 25-18.

The Spartans looked to keep the match alive in the third set and fought back from being down 6-3 to leading 7-6 early on. Both teams would trade points and remain tied at 13, 14, 15 and 16. The Lions then rattled off 7 unanswered points to lead 22-16. Behrend would hold their lead to the end, winning the third game 25-20 and the match 3-0.

Kaylee Stewart had a team high 14 kills in the match. Freshman Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) had 7 kills and tied for a team high 2 total blocks with Kendyll Smith. Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden) had 6 kills and 2 service aces.

Coming off her career high in assists on Saturday, Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) recorded a team high 28 assists. She was also second on the team with 11 digs, one behind the team leader Kaitlyn Grimm (Erie, PA/Iroquois). Cortlynn Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and Megan Gawrys (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) each had 8 digs.

The women will wrap up their season on Saturday October 31st at Pitt.-Greensburg.
