Allegheny, Behrend Take Two from Spartans to Open Fisher Tournament

Pittsford, NY - The D'Youville women's volleyball team started off the St. John Fisher Tournament Friday afternoon with a pair of losses, first falling to the Allegheny Gators 3-0 and then to the Penn State-Behrend Lions 3-2.

Allegheny defeated the Spartans in three sets, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-14. Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden) and Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) led the team with five kills each. Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) has a team high seven digs, while Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) recorded a team leading eight assists.

Booth, Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) each had two kills. McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added seven digs. 

D'Youville played a tight game in their second match of the day against Penn State-Behrend. After taking a 2-1 lead, the Lions came back to win the final two sets and win the match 3-2. The set scores 14-25, 25-15, 12-25, 25-16, 15-11.

Smith this time led the Spartans in kills with 10. McCarthy followed her with nine, then Fleming and Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) each had eight. Booth was the team leader in assists for the second straight match with 26 assists. Cartonia was behind her with 17. 

Filkov was the team leader with 11 digs. Stewart and McCarthy tied for a team high three total blocks.

The women will play Alfred University and the host St. John Fisher Cardinals tomorrow, Saturday September 17th.
