Women's Volleyball Looks to Conference Play After Fisher Tournament Completion

Pittsford, NY - The D'Youville women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses Saturday afternoon to close out the St. John Fisher Tournament by losing to the Alfred University Saxons 3-1 and the St. John Fisher Cardinals 3-1.

After falling behind 1-0 to Alfred University in the first sets of the day, D'Youville then tied the match at 1-1. However, the Saxons would win the next two sets and win the match 3-1. The scores of the match were 22-25, 27-25, 17-25, 16-25.

Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) and Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) shared the lead in kills for the team in the match with eight. Senior Megan McCarthy (Eden, NY/Eden) had a team high four total blocks to go with her seven kills.

Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had 14 digs to lead all Spartans. With 23 assists, Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) had the team lead. Mckenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) followed booth with 12 and had a team high three service aces.

In their final match of the weekend, the Spartans faced the host St. John Fisher Cardinals. After trailing 2-0, D'Youville won the third set but then were defeated in the fourth set to lose 3-1. The set scores for the match were 22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 17-25.

Kaylee Stewart (Wilson, NY/Wilson) tied Smith with the team high in kills with 11. Brayton again had the team lead in digs with 16. Booth had a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs to go with her four kills. Smith had a double-double of her own with 11 digs and 11 kills.

Alexandra Bubar (Wilson, NY/Wilson) recorded nine digs with two assists and one service ace. Christina Horton (Irondequoit, NY/West Irondequoit) chipped in with four kills, three assists and three digs.

The next pair of matches for D'Youville come this weekend as they travel to Mount Aloysius on Saturday, playing Penn State-Atloona at 1pm and Mount Aloysius at 3:30pm. The two matches begin the team's conference schedule.
