Bradford, PA - The fifth seeded D'Youville women's volleyball team saw their season end on Saturday afternoon after suffering a 3-0 loss to the top seeded Pitt.-Bradford Panthers.
The Panthers were in control of the match early in the first set to the tune of a 6-2 lead. D'Youville rallied back to trail by one a 12-11 before Bradford turned it on to take a 20-12 lead. They would continue their strong level of play to the end of the first set, winning 25-14.
D'Youville rebounded strongly to start the second set. The women jumped out to a 9-3 lead over Bradford and seemed to be in control. Increasing their lead to 12-4, the Panthers rallied to trail 13-12 and then took the lead at 20-19. Bradford would then score the final five points of the set and win the second set 25-19.
The third set was closer to begin with as the two teams were tied at 10-10 until Bradford took a 16-11 advantage. D'Youville came back to pull to within two by trailing 19-17. The Panthers then were within in a point of winning the match with a 24-19 lead until the Spartans rallied to trail 24-23. However Bradford would score the one point they needed to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Sophomore Julie Fleming (Tonawadna, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) led the team with eight kills in the match, followed by both Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) with six each. Freshman Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) led the team with nine digs.
