Fisher Takes Down Women's Volleyball in Three Sets

Rochester, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team suffered their second consecutive loss on Wednesday evening, falling to the St. John Fisher Cardinals by the final of 3-0.

St. John Fisher took an early lead in the first set at 8-4, but then extended their lead to 14-7. The Cardinals continued to hold a seven-point lead at 16-9 and then grew the lead to eight at 21-13. D'Youville went on a 7-1 scoring run to make the score 22-20, but Fisher was able to hold off the late charge and win the first set 25-20.

The two teams were tied at 6-6 in the second set before Fisher went ahead 10-6. D'Youville came back to pull within one at 14-13, but the Cardinals would then go on a 9-1 scoring run to make a commanding 23-14 advantage. With the set win in reach, Fisher would get their final two points to win the second set 25-17.

After trailing for the beginning portion of the third set, the Spartans came back to take a 13-10 lead over the Cardinals. The two teams would trade leads for the next several points up until the set was tied 23-23. However, Fisher was able to score the final two points and take the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

"It was a hard fought match," said head coach Stephanie Kazmierczak. "Very back and forth but couldn't pull out the win. We are getting better every game and this is great practice for the competition we will see during conference play."

Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the team with six kills while Lauren Conley (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) each had four. Alexandra Bubar (Wilson, NY/Wilson) led the team with 12 digs with Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added nine with a team high nine assists. Schneider had eight digs with McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) tallying nine.

The next series of matches this weekend come this weekend as the women travel to Lycoming to play this Friday, September 8. D'Youville will play Nazareth at 6:00pm and Lycoming at 8:00pm.
