Schneider Lands All-Tournament Honors as Spartans Return to Form

Williamsport, PA – The D'Youville women's volleyball team had a bounce-back pair of performances on Saturday as the women swept Hartwick and Clarks Summit, defeating each 3-0.

In the first set of the day, the women were tied with Hartwick at 10-10 before the Spartans took the lead at 20-16. Hartwick again tied it up at 22-22, but D'Youville would pull away and win the first set 25-22.

The Spartans would take care of business in the second and third sets. D'Youville never trailed in the second set as they eventually won the second set 25-17. In the third set, it was the same story as the Spartans led from the first point to the last as they won the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

Senior Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had an outstanding performance as she led the team with 10 kills and 22 digs. Fellow senior Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added 10 digs to go with her 15 assists four kills. A third senior, Alexandra Bubar (Wilson, NY/Wilson), had a team high four service aces to go with 12 digs.

Both Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) and Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) each had six kills with Lauren Conley (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) setting a career high with eight kills.

The second match of the day displayed the dominance of the Spartans, especially in the first set. After getting out to a 6-4 lead, D'Youville scored 10 of the next 11 points to make the score 16-5. They would continue their strong play through the end of the first and win the set 25-10.

Clarks Summit built a very large lead at 14-5 in the second set. With it looking like the Spartans were out of it, the women went on an incredible scoring run to tie it at 20-20. From there on, D'Youville would outscore Clarks Summit 5-2, giving the Spartans a 25-22 victory in the second set.

The third and final set was the most evenly matched between the two sides. Clarks Summit led 14-12 over D'Youville before the Spartans pulled out to an 18-14 lead. The two teams tied it again at 22-22 before the Spartans scored the final three points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

"I am very happy with our performance today," said head coach Stephanie Kazmierczak. "Everyone contributed and it was a true team effort. I'm extremely proud of everyone."

Conley and Smith each had six kills to lead the team, while Murray and Booth each tallied four. Bubar led the team with 17 digs, with Smith adding 10 with a team high four service aces.

In total, 14 Spartans saw action for the women against Clarks Summit. Eight different players recorded at least one kills while nine players had at least one dig.

Megan Schneider earned All-Tournament honors, as one player from each team was selected for the All-Tournament Team.

The next match for the women comes this Wednesday, September 13 as the women host their home opener against Cazenovia at 7:00pm.
