Women's Volleyball Inches Closer to Playoffs with Victory over Hilbert

Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team moved to within one game of reaching the playoffs for the second consecutive season after defeating the Hilbert Hawks Wednesday evening by the score of 3-0.

D'Youville dominated in the first set of the match, defeating the Hawks 25-13. The next set was much more tightly contested between the two teams, but the Spartans were able to squeeze out a victory over the Hawks 27-25. To close out the match, the Spartans would get back to dominating form with a 25-14 third set win and a 3-0 match victory.

Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) recorded yet another double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs. Leading the team in kills was Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) with 13 while Alexandra Bubar (Wilson, NY/Wilson) recorded a team high 28 digs. Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) also had a double-double with 20 assists and 12 digs.

McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added 11 assists in the match with Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) contributing six kills. In total, 12 different Spartans saw action on Wednesday evening.

The next match for the women comes on Saturday, October 28 at Franciscan. If D'Youville wins the match, they will clinch the sixth and final seed in the AMCC playoffs.
