D'Youville Loses Two Before Beginning Conference Play

Oswego, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball team had one of their most competitive days of the season Saturday afternoon, but were eventually defeated by the Utica Pioneers 3-0 and the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 3-0.

To begin their action on Saturday, the Spartans took on Utica. They played three very competitive sets against the Pioneers, but the women ultimately went down 25-21, 25-20, 25-21.

Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) led the team in kills with 11. Lauren Conley (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Carly Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), and Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) each had five kills, followed by Talia Wright (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) with four.

Wright added 11 digs with two service aces in the match while Desiree Walters (Oswego, IL/Oswego) and Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) each tallied 14 digs. Walters also had two service aces to tie Wright for the team high. Angela Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) led the way with 18 assists.

Match number two of the day also saw the women play in a closely contested match, but unfortunately they received the same results. Canton started the match off with a 25-19 set victory, followed by 25-22 and 25-20 victories to win the match 3-0.

Milleville had an impressive match with 12 kills and eight digs, second only to Alyssa Diamond (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) who had 13 digs. Wright added six kills, six digs, and four service aces.

The women will get an extended rest period as they next play on Wednesday, September 26 when they host Hilbert at 7:00pm to begin their conference schedule.
