Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's volleyball captured their first conference win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating the rivaled Hilbert Hawks by the final score of 3-0.
Set number one saw the Spartans jump out to a 9-5 lead before the Hawks would take the next seven points for a 12-9 lead. D'Youville would recover to score 16 of the next 21 points and win the first set 25-17.
The two teams started off fairly even in the second set, but the Spartans would jump out to an 11-5 lead. A steady flow of offense would continue for the women as they opened up a 12 point lead at 22-10 and D'Youville would win the second set 25-12.
Continuing from their strong finish to the second set, D'Youville would take a quick 9-2 lead and keep rolling to the tune of a 21-7 advantage. The Spartans would capture their final four points of the third set to win 25-9 and the match 3-0.
Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) had a fantastic match, tying for the team lead with seven kills and recording a team high 16 digs. Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) also had seven kills with McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Angela Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) tallying 14 and 13 respectively.
Desiree Walters (Oswego, IL/Oswego) tallied eight digs and three service aces, tied with Cartonia and J. Filkov for the team lead. Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) had seven kills as well, adding a block.
The next match for the women comes tomorrow evening as they host the Brockport Golden Eagles at 7:00pm.
