Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's volleyball team returned to game action on Wednesday evening, falling to the Penn State-Behrend Lions by the final score of 3-0.
Behrend went ahead 8-2 in the first set of the match and then extended their lead to 15-6 just a few minutes later. The Lions would remain in control of the first through to the end, winning the set 25-11.
The Spartans stuck with the Lions early in the second set, trailing 7-5. Nine of the next 10 points would then be scored by Behrend as they led 16-6 and they would extend their lead, eventually winning the second set 25-10.
In the third set, the Lions continued to stay hot. They were up 12-5 and would eventually go on to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) led the team with six kills and 10 digs in the match, adding one block. Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) tallied four kills with Talia Wright (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) adding two kills and eight digs. Desiree Walters (Oswego, IL/Oswego) would register seven digs.
Angela Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) had nine assists in the match as McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added seven. Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) added two kills and a block.
The next pair of matches for the women will be this Saturday, October 13 as they travel to Pitt.-Greensburg to play the Bobcats at 10:00am and the Penn State-Altoona Lions at 2:00pm.
