Volleyball Notches Second Conference Win in Saturday Split

Greensburg, PA- The D'Youville women's volleyball team traveled on Saturday, October 13 to face Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State-Altoona going four sets in each match. 

To start off the Saturday, the Spartans went head-to-head with the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats. The Bobcats jumped out early lead at 14-7 over D'Youville, maintaining that lead throughout the rest of the first set and winning 25-15. 

D'Youville responded in the second set by jumping out to a 14-7 lead of their own. They would lead by 20-15 and close out the set with five consecutive points and win 25-15. The Spartans again got out to a 14-7 lead but the Bobcats would storm back to trail 14-12. After going up by six, the D'Youville lead would close to three before they would close out the third set, winning 25-21. The fourth set saw the Spartans stay hot, winning the set handily by the score of 25-15 and winning the match 3-1.

Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) led D'Youville with 11 kills.  Carly Millville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Samantha Murray (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) followed with five kills each.   

On defense, Talia Wright (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) led the team with 15 digs. Following right behind was Filkov with 13 and Desiree Walters (Oswego, IL/Oswego) with 10. 

The Spartans had quite a match with serving tallying 17 serving aces; Walters with six, Murray with four, J. Filkov and Fleming with three and Angela Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collings) adding one.  A. Filkov also had 20 assists to lead the team. 

Match number two of the day was played against the Penn State-Altoona Lions. The Lions were able to take the first two sets by the scores of 25-10 and 25-15. D'Youville then battled back in the third set as they went back and forth, trading leads. The Spartans would pull out the 30-28 victory in the third, but Altoona would come back and win the fourth set 25-19.    

Leading the team in kills (8) and digs (17) was J. Filkov.  Wright added two serving aces and four kills, while Carly and Mikaela Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) added four kills as well.  M. Milleville also tallied six digs.  Also contributing to the team's efforts was Fleming who had six kills and Walters who led the team in digs with 28.

The Spartans get the week off to prepare for their next two matches on Saturday, October 20 at the College Center.  The team will be taking on Franciscan at 1:00 pm and Alfred St. at 3:30pm.
