Buffalo, NY - Coming off three wins in four matches, the D'Youville women's volleyball team is playing to extend their season as they take on the rivaled Medaille Mavericks this Wednesday in the AMCC Game of the Week.

The Spartans have earned two conference wins in their last three opportunities and have won three of their last four matches. While at Pitt.-Greensburg on Saturday, October 13, the women defeated Greensburg to improve their conference record 2-3 with a 3-1 victory over the Bobcats.

The team followed that up with a pair of wins this past Saturday against Franciscan and Alfred State. D'Youville defeated Franciscan 3-2 and then swept Alfred State 3-0 to continue their strong end to the regular season. With their win over the Barons, the women improved their conference record to 3-4.

Jasmine Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) has stepped up her game as of late with a double-double in each of the team's three wins. She tallied 11 kills and 13 digs in a 3-1 win over Pitt.-Greensburg, then had a career match against Franciscan this past Saturday with career highs in kills (19) and digs (25) for another conference victory.

Several freshmen have stepped up into big roles for the women this season. Carly Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) leads the team in kills while Desiree Walters (Oswego, IL/Oswego) leads the team in digs with Angela Filkov (North Collins, NY/North Collins) providing a team high in assists.

Senior Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St, Mary's Academy) has been a leader of the team on the court but also on the stat sheet as she is second on the team in kills and tied for first in blocks. Talia Wright (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) has also shifted into a new role this season as she is third in kills and digs on the team but first in service aces. The team contributions for the women have kept them in the running for a playoff game and been the reason for their recent success.

The Mavericks share an identical 3-4 record in conference play, winning two of their last three. In those matches they have played Alfred State (3-0 win), Hilbert (3-0 win), and La Roche (3-0 loss). D'Youville has defeated Alfred State and Hilbert by the same scores this season with their match against La Roche coming this weekend.

Medaille has three players with over 145 kills this season, providing a strong offense. Their defense has five players with 100 or more digs showcasing that they are solid at both ends of the court.

Game time for Wednesday's rivalry game is 7:00pm with Buffalo Cup points on the line.
