Women's Cross Country Takes First at Meghan Memorial, Men's Team Second
Hamburg, NY- The D'Youville men's and women's cross country team competed at the Meghan Memorial hosted by Hilbert College this weekend.
The women's team won the meet with 35 points just edging out Medaille. The two teams were tied in points but the Spartan's sixth runner, Kritin McMurtree (Lancaster, NY / Alden Central), beat out Medaille's sixth runner for the win. Emily Quast (Lockport, NY / Lockport) was second overall with a 5-kilometer time of 21:08. Ten seconds behind her and finishing third overall with a time of 21:18 was Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa).
In the men's race D'Youville came in second with 33 points. Matthew Silver (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) came in third overall with a time of 18:03 over the 5k course. Christopher Rumpl (Kenmore, NY / Kenmore West) had a career best with a time of 18:31 placing fourth.
"First off, were extremely thankful to apart of this special event," said D'Youville head coach Bill Maloney. "Our runners ran a great race today, they were very strong with sprints down the finish and we look to build off the momentum of today's results."
The Spartan's next event is October 19th at the CCOC Championship at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, NY. The women's team will run at 11:00AM followed by the men's team at 11:45AM.
