Grand Island, NY – The D'Youville women's cross country team opened their season Saturday morning,with the team placing fourth in the Buffalo State Daniel Walker Invitational.
The women finished fourth behind Buffalo State, Cuyahoga Community College, and Daemen and ahead of four other teams. Freshman Samantha Ruszczyk (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg)took second overall for the women with a time of 20:58, less than 0:30 off the leader and over 0:40 ahead of the next runner.
Rachel Luczak (Lancaster, NY/Immactulata) was the second D'Youville runner to cross the finish line with a time of 24:01 in the 5k. She finished in 15th place and Stephanie Lisiecki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) followed behind her in 20th place and a time of 24:56.
Jenna Donati (Depew, NY/Depew), Kaitlyn Furtado (Acushnet, MA/Fairhaven), Rachel Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown), and Danielle Couch (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield)all completed good first races for the women on Saturday. Joanna Elledge (Lockport, NY/Wilson), Mary Blackley (Lockport, NY/Blackley Academy), and Alexis Dymond (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) all ran well over the weekend.
The next race for the Spartans will come on Saturday, September 22 as they run at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
