Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville women's cross country team had an exceptional race on Saturday morning as they took first overall at the Meghan Memorial, hosted by Hilbert.
Samantha Ruszczyk (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) took first overall for the women as she ran a time of 21:34 in the 5k, nearly 20 seconds faster than the next runner. Rachel Luczak (Lancaster, NY/Immaculata) took third overall as she ran a time of 23:13 with Stephanie Lisiecki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) running with a time of 23:41 and finishing in fourth place overall.
D'Youville then had a series of strong finishes from their runners. Kaitlyn Furtado (Acushnet, MA/Fairhaven) clocked in a time of 26:10 with Rachel Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) finishing close behind with a time of 26:44. Jenna Donati (Depew, NY/Depew) would then cross the finish line with a time of 27:23.
Joanna Elledge (Lockport, NY/Wilson) would finish the race with a time of 27:58 and Danielle Couch (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) followed right behind her at 28:15. Alexis Dymond (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) ran a strong race with a time of 28:46, as did Mary Blackley (Lockport, NY/Blackley Academy) who came in with a time of 29:58.
The Spartans defeated Keuka, Hilbert, and Medaille in the race – all competitive teams.
Next Saturday, October 13 the women will run their final race before the AMCC Championship. They will compete at the Cross Country only Championship next weekend, beginning at 11:00am.
