Grand Island, NY - The D'Youville women's cross country team had a strong performance to begin their 2019 season on Saturday morning, finishing third overall at the Buffalo State Invitational at Beaver Island State Park.
Samantha Ruszczyk (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) was the top runner for the Spartans as the senior took second overall. She finished the 5k with a time of 20:56, just 0:13 behind the first place runner.
Rachel Luczak (Lancaster, NY/Immaculata) placed 11th overall with a time 22:57, starting off her season strong. Rounding out the top three for the women was Stephanie Lisiecki (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) with a time 25:38 - good for 17th overall.
Coming in with a time of 25:38 was Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) for 18th overall. Danielle Couch (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Jenna Donati (Depew, NY/Depew) finished back-to-back with times of 31:14 and 32:23. Alexis Dymond (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was the final Spartan runner with 33:37.
The next race for the women will come in two weeks on Friday, Saturday 13 as they run in the Penn State-Behrend Invitational.
