Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) joined in on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's (AMCC) second annual SAAC for Socks event this past week, helping benefit the the homeless of Western New York.
In their two home basketball doubleheaders on Saturday, February 1 against La Roche and Wednesday, February 5 against Hilbert, SAAC collected 50 clothing items including socks and gloves. All items will be donated to the Buffalo City Mission.
SAAC President and all-conference outfielder for the D'Youville softball team, Ashley Carney, was extremely thankful for the kind donations from the D'Youville community.
"It felt great to not only support those in need throughout our community, but have those within our own D'Youville community support us," said Carney. "We are extremely thankful to be part of this conference-wide event, especially with it aligning so perfectly with the mission of D'Youville College - never refusing to serve."
Last year, D'Youville collected 200 items to contribute to the first SAAC for Socks. In total, the AMCC collected 1,769 pairs of socks, 141 pairs of gloves, 113 winter hats, and 343 miscellaneous items.
