Buffalo, NY - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) released their baseball preseason polls this week with the D'Youville baseball team voted on to have a similar finish as last season.
D'Youville was selected to finish in eleventh place in 2020 as the men finished last in 2019 with a 2-16 conference record. Last season Alfred State was added as a full-time member for baseball and this season the same will be true for Franciscan.
Junior infielder Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and senior pitcher Adam Lampman (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) were pegged as players to watch for the men due to their performances in 2019. Varney tied for first on the team in RBI (9) in 2019 while finishing second in hit (24), third in batting average (.261) and runs (14), tied for third in doubles (4), and tied for fourth in stolen bases (2). Lampman led the team in innings pitched (45.1), games started (8), and complete games (3) while finishing second in strikeouts (24) and third in appearances (12).
La Roche - the 2019 conference champions - are expected to finish first yet again in 2020 and have won seven titles. Both the Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Pitcher of the Year are sophomore Penn State-Behrend players, the team picked to finish third in AMCC. Penn State-Altoona is pegged to finish second.
The AMCC coaches poll is voted on by all coaches in the AMCC. They vote and rank the teams and how they expect them to finish in the AMCC for the upcoming season, as well as vote on preseason awards.
