D'Youville Loses to Penn State-Fayette

Winter Haven, FL - The D'Youville baseball team lost their final nine-inning game of their time in Florida as they fell to Penn State-Fayette 11-6.

Fayette had two strong innings to start the game, scoring four in the first and one in the second for a 5-0 lead. In the fourth, the Spartans scored their first run as Alex Liem (Dorchester, Ont./Dorchester Secondary) singling and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He would then advance to third on a Mateos Santos (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) sac-fly and score in the next at-bat on a wild pitch.

The fifth inning saw another run and then the Lions added five more in the bottom of the sixth. Between those two innings, the Spartans would score their second run in the top of the sixth as Liem led off with a walk, stealing second. He would then advance to third and come around to score on a Renato Quinones (Lockport, NY/Saint Joe's) groundout.

Trailing 11-2 in the top of the eighth, D'Youville would put together their best inning of the day. Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, NY/Bishop-Timon St. Jude) and Shane Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) walked to start the inning, followed by a Quinones hit by pitch. Santos would then walk, scoring Glinski.

Zach Cocking (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) would reach on a fielder's choice, but it would drive in Critelli to score. Josh Battaglia (Rochester, NY/Hilton) would single to score Quinones and a wild pitch would then bring home Cocking to make the game 11-6.

Neither team would score in the ninth as the Lions went on to win the game 11-6.

Battaglia led the team with two hits while Liem added another with two runs. Critelli tallied three walks while Liem and Santos had two each. In total, the team had 10 walks.

Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) pitched 5.2 innings with four earned runs and one strikeouts. Jared Glowniak (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) came in relief for 2.1 innings of work, allowing no earned runs and tallied three strikeouts.
