Steubenville, OH - The D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to the Francsican Barons on the road Saturday afternoon in their third conference game of the season.
D'Youville recorded the first two shots on goal in the game with Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/Webster-Schroder) nearly combining for their second goal in as many games. However in the 12th minute, Franciscan got a ball to find the back of the Spartan's net to grab the 1-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Peter Petruzzo (Clarence, NY/Clarence) came up big for the Spartans throughout the first half. The junior made five additional saves to close out the second half, keeping D'Youville in the game as they went into the half trailing 1-0.
The Barons opened the second half with a big push on offense. On their eighth shot of the second half Franciscan found the back of the net again to double their lead to 2-0. They then added insurance goals in the 73rd and 82nd minutes to win the game 4-0.
Petruzzo made 10 saves on 14 shots in the game. On offense, Sherman led the team with two shots, including one on goal. Ciccarelli and Pat Mann (Brighton, NY/Brighton) also each had a shot on goal.
The men will next play Medaille on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:15pm. The Mavericks will host D'Youville on the Spartan's home field at Dobson Field.
