Bradford, PA - The D'Youville men's soccer team ended their season on Tuesday afternoon with a 1-0 loss the the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers.
D'Youville's offense came out of the gate firing, looking for the early advantage. The team registered four shots in the first 17 minutes to go with two corner kicks and an offsides. Bradford then came back at the Spartans with an attack of their own, but were unable to get a shot on goal.
Hunter Sherman (Lockport, NY/Lockport) was consistently a problem for the Panther's defense. He had four shots in 12 minutes, all that threatened to give the Spartans a lead. However in the 44th minute, the Panthers pounced with the first goal of the game and took their late 1-0 lead into the half.
The Spartans came out in the second half with more offensive firepower. Pat Mann (Brighton, NY/Brighton) had two corner kicks in the first five minutes of the half while Marco Ciccarelli (Rochester, NY/Webster-Schroeder) and Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) had shots go high and wide.
As the half went on, more and more players got in on the action. Paul Gettman (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) and Corey Sikora (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore) both recorded shots on goal that were saved. In the final 10 minutes, Sherman had four more shots but none found the back of the net as the Panthers were able to shutout the Spartans and win the game by the final of 1-0.
Sherman led the offense with an astounding 13 shots, four on goal. Hammer and Ciccarelli each had three shots while Gettman recorded two. In goal, Peter Petruzzo (Clarence, NY/Clarence) had to make only one save. His defense of Mann, Hammer, Mike Lekanka (Newfane, NY/Newfane) and Allan Wade (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) were outstanding.
