La Roche would score seven unanswered points to reopen their lead at 22-15 with five minutes to go in the half, but D'Youville trimmed the deficit to five. The Redhawks would go on a run late and score the final 10 points of the second to lead 33-20 at the half.

After several minutes of play in the third, D'Youville would close the gap to seven. The two teams would go back and forth with the Spartans beginning to take advantage of their height on the inside as Sara Field (Durhamville, NY/VVS) scored a layup to make it a six-point game with 2:35 in the quarter. By the end of the third, La Roche was able to rebuild their lead as they went up 49-38 with one quarter remaining in the game.
